Hmmmm. German gun laws = very restictive. So how did this happen? I thought that keeping guns out of the hands of citizens would keep events like this from ever happening.

Sad but just proof that banning guns is not the answer.

I thought Germans where Verboden to have guns. Tried it with them a couple times and they got a little silly.

It is possible to get weapons if you have contacts among criminals from former Yugoslavia. Liquidations among people from that region happen too once in a while.

Edit: The German for forbidden is Verboten, verboden is the Dutch form.

Actually, Strict gun control and registration was passed just a few years before Hitler took power. Once he was in power, he virtually banned all civilian ownership of guns.

So, in truth, they got silly when they were NOT allowed to have guns, not the other way around.

There was a huge stream of refugees from those parts, among which also fleeing soldiers. The former Soviet states still haven't closed the borders all that well, and they can just sneak into Germany through the Eastern-German part.

Or maybe it was one of those gay US diplomats who could claim diplomatic immunity when smuggling in all his weapons.

You're probably correct. No way it could have been any of the peace loving German people. We all know they would never start any violence.

I was joking and mainly refering to allowing Germany to build a war machine. But A1 brings up a good point that we should all head and Hitler and his henchmen probably would have not been able to totally control if the resistance had weapons.

call me callous but stuff like this doesnt even phaze me anymore. only 3-4 people killed? not even newsworthy it happens so much in this day and age. Takes killing on a much larger scale to conern me.

what the hell is this world coming to when im not even halfway shocked at a school shooting...

Ya think? That's exactly why the Founding Fathers created the Second Amendment. They understood that dictators love unarmed peasants and that the only way for the people to protect themselves against government tyranny was for them to be armed.

"When the government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government there is tyranny." -Thomas Jefferson

Good quote shinerburke, I am usually a very liberal person but am totally republican when it comes to guns.

Come on now! I don't want to get into a gun debate but even somebody who is all for school yard kids getting handguns in their lunchpails can see that one case of a shooting doesn't indicate anything to do with gun laws.

Funny how every time something like this happens here in the US all the anti gun zealots come out of the woodwork and start screaming for more gun laws saying that would solve the problem.

Well what these shootings prove is that a sh*thead kid can get a gun in any country and if schools want to deal with it they probably have to beef up security or screen kids better or something

<< Isn't the Columbine anniversary right around now? It happened in April, didn't it? >>

Yeah, April 20th I think. My prayers go out to the families whose children were killed, and to the families of the teachers and the police officer killed. :(
