School me on HDMI switches

I have two displays that I want to connect to the same source. I won't be using both at the same time (no mirroring). Basically, I want to play console games on at my desk while someone else watches TV.

I've looked at some HDMI switches. Most have a single output with multiple inputs. I assume that can work in reverse though. That's what I'm a little unclear about. Plus there's powered versus unpowered. I'm not sure what the advantages or disadvantages are of both.

It's not a long run and since my receiver has different zones, I don't need audio.

Any suggestions? Ideally looking for something inexpensive.

All you need for your scenario is a 1x2 HDMI splitter. Not a switch. There are bidirectional switches, but they are not common.
