I agree, no one should have to support a gay agenda. (The Devil's a rich guy, he can afford two Advocates, right?) I totally support his right to not wear a purple shirt, or to wear one with bright green pants, or to insist that this day be about all kids committing suicide rather than just gay kids. But for expressing such outright hatred, no apology can suffice. For expressing the view that gays should all kill themselves, no apology can suffice. And for being so stupid as to think he can post such stuff in public and get away with it - well, no apology is needed, but it's another reason to run him the hell out of Dodge.

I applaud him for resigning, and for manning up and admitting this shit storm is what he himself has sown. But he's got a long way to go before he climbs back up to the level of just a typical asshole.
He posted it Facebook where it was only viewable to his Facebook friends. That is, until someone decided to make it public. It's not like he said it to the kids' faces and/or is assisting in gay youths commit suicide.

Nice friend he has there. It's stupid of him to post something like that on facebook knowing that it could get out. Im just glad it did. There is no need for someone that expresses those views on a school board.

Wow. So if I post on my facebook page that I think all black people should kill themselves, it's OK as long as I have no black facebook friends? I'm not saying it to their face after all.

And LOL @ you for thinking Facebook's vaunted "security" would keep anything from getting public whether or not one of your internet friends leaked it.

Yes, I worded that badly. I should have said that for posting that where more than a handful of people could read it, and therefore make it public, he deserves to be canned (or at least caned) for stupidity as well. You cannot make such evil statements as wishing people (and especially kids!) dead for no better reason than your disapproval of their lawful behavior and expect the majority of your friends to keep that quiet. Your family and maybe your closest friends will overlook such behavior out of respect for your good qualities or perhaps just out of loyalty, but beyond that any man would be hard-pressed to have a circle of friends all willing to let that pass unpunished. And Devil's advocacy aside I have no problem with him thinking or saying that - although everyone should be able to agree that it's a horrible think to think, let alone say out loud or write down. But this is beyond his First Amendment rights, it's about whether a man like that can remain in a position of power and authority. Clearly he cannot, not without the system and the community tacitly agreeing that at the least it's a valid opinion.

He said he was going to play Devil's advocate; this is merely bringing up valid points, not validating the man's behavior or judgment.

In this instance, he didn't want to wear a purple shirt to "raise awareness about harassment and bullying against gay youth." Why does it have to be for gay youth? Why not include all youth? It certainly would have gotten wider support.

Because the bigotry against and ignorance about gay youth that has for decades led to a far higher suicide rate for them exists for them and not for all youth.

How many devil's advocates does a guy need when he says kids should kill themselves? Sometimes people just aren't worth fighting for.
