Doesn't the addittion of more and more blades create more friction, and therefore put more stress on your face?

That IS their main selling point, as is gillette's...you don't have to stroke as much

Me too. I envision a razor with so many blades that you just stick it on your cheek and flick your wrist ever so slightly and you get the whole side of your face.
 
I have about four Mach 3's(bought 2(1 came with a tool :Q), 2 came in the mail free) and I just buy the turbo blades.
