Scheduling XP To restart every 4 hours??

I have been looking into this for a bit but can't figure out how to do it. Long story short I need to program my computer to restart every 4 hours, anyone know a way to do this in Windows XP?

Thanks

You can use scheduled tasks (start-programs-accessories-system tools-scheduled tasks) to accomplish this.

Double click add a scheduled task, click on next, then click browse - under filename, type "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe" without the quotes...type a name for the task, and choose to run it when you log on, then click next. Choose a start time + start date, click next - put in your username and password information, then click next again. Check the box where it says "Open advanced properties for this task when I click finish."

In the advanced properties, make sure that it says C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe /r in the Run area, then click on schedule tab. In the schedule tab, click on advanced button -- then click repeat task every 4 hours.

Then press OK and save all changes.

THanks for the help. I need to because I have a fascist network admin controlling my internet connection. In order to download torrents I got to run HTTP Tunnel and the torrent program, and the network usually shuts that down after a few hours. so in order to keep downloading i have to keep restarting it. just thought restarting my computer automatically would be an easy way to do it.

you do realize they will nix this one too.....Network admin > users. We just are, it's not a boastfull thing, or a mean thing, we just are paid lots of money to keep networks running. Running a torrent on my network degrades my network. Unless their is a business case for this, I'm going to smack you down. When you find a loophole, I'll close it and smack you down again. Keep it up, and it's time to call HR and can you.

heh. You're gonna get busted.

Yeah, using torrents at work = bad.

Using torrents at work + deliberately bypassing measures designed to prevent it = fired.

We had a douchebag at my old work who brought in a linksys router and it dished out IPs to people with wireless cards. Then he enabled DHCP on his mac which seriously screwed up that network subnet.

He got fired after the 3rd time of not keeping his home gear off teh network. He caught our boss on a bad day as well, he was looking for somebody to yell at and that assclown provided the perfect target.

god, I cannot believe I am saying this, but since I run a consulting firm that troubleshoots these problems, I guess I am just making more money for myself:
Create a batchfile with the following:
c:
cd\ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
exit

Put it in your task scheduler and have it run every four hours... no need to reboot.

I agree, I have seen people fired for lesser network offences. I wonder why his admin isn't filtering all non essential ports? Although, if he is like most admins its a combination of lack of knowledge and lack of time/drive to do this.

I remember seeing a guy canned for using netsend. The company used netsend within their proprietary software to send each other notificaitons, so this kid went to command line and used netsend, but put other people's names in From portion. He did it as a joke, so people would think their boss etcetera was notifying them. The problem is, the company didn't know that netsend was a built in app of the OS, so they thought he was hacking their system. Of course, I am sure they had other reasons to fire him, but I nearly double over when they told me about this kid hacking their system.

actually im not at work. I'm in a university off campus apartment. We all have to pay into the internet connection which comes with the apartment, but we get no say whatsoever as to who provides it, or how we can use it. So as its not a business internet connection, and i pay for it, I'm going to continue fighting whoever controls it!!!!!!!! hahahaha
