Scheduling F@H

Hi guys, I've got a i5 760 @4.1GHz + 460 GTX SLI that I'd like to put to work running F@H. The problem is the heat output really is quite high and my computer is kept largely in my bedroom where I like it a bit cooler as I fall asleep. I probably will not mind F@H starting maybe around 3 am (shut around 12 am manually) but I'm not sure how to make that happen. I've tried the built in "schedule task" function in windows 7 but it doesn't really work with F@H. The CPU core starts but starts a whole new work unit for some reason and the GPU cores just don't start.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Also, is a 4.1GHz quad only supposed to get something like 1600ppd? I was under the impression it would count for a fair bit more. Its almost not worth running.

Folding has nothing built in to allow scheduling (unless you count the -oneunit flag which stops after current WU finishes).

What about dropping the OC overnight?

You should definitely get much more than 1600ppd. Are you using the SMP2 client with a passkey?

Yea get the SMP2 client + pass key :)

My old quad's getting about 4-5k ppd, IIRC. Although HFM is saying 7350 ppd atm!

Drop F@H and crunch with BOINC you can set times when you want your PC to crunch and how much proccessor usage you want give you much more control over your pc usage. Plus I had those issues with F@H where if I got cutoff mid WU it would start a new one and I would get no points. It's just a frustrating program to use compared to BOINC.

Ah right the passkey. Didn't think it was necessary but I've just actually read the FAQ so I'll get that sorted shortly thanks guys.

BOINC doesn't seem to have much really worthy of donating computing time too. It appears that milkyway and collatz are the main ones there and as much as I appreciate math/astronomy, F@H just seems more productive. Thanks for the suggestion anyway

Well both have merit, BOINC has dozens & dozens of different programs you can run on it, including Rosetta@Home which is a similiar project to F@H.
But anyhow F@H is a good one to stick with, once you get pass the any installation issues :). We want ya on F@H of course :D.

Why would you want to give a DC project less than 100pc CPU time? ;)

I think that's been fixed in the current SMP client, or at the least it happens far less, it's never happened to me for SMP2 anyway.

Hmm, can't remember if that's the one I'm using! :$, anyway, yea true, it's much easier now they've ditched those :).
