I thought that monitor wasnt good for gaming? Im also thinking that your not going to be very happy running BF2 at 1600x1200 with a 6600gt.

That's a 1680x1050 widescreen monitor, so there are not enough physical pixels to display 1600x1200. The highest 4:3 resolution you could do 1:1 is 1400x1050. If you want a 1600x1200 LCD, you should be looking for 4:3 (non-widescreen) 20" LCD's. The Dell 2001FP is the only one I'm really familiar with, though there are many others on the market as well.

A 23" or 24" widescreen LCD (1920x1200) could also display 1600x1200 without scaling, but those are well over your $500 limit.

For what it's worth, all Source engine games have native widescreen support so you wouldn't need a 4:3 LCD (and they display more of the picture in widescreen mode too). I don't have any experience with BF2 so I can't say for sure either way if that game supports widescreen out of the box.

I'm planning on buying the 7800GS in a few weeks... If the price stays over 300.00 I will buy the 6800GS.. Will the 6800GS run a LCD monitor 1600x1200 native medium to high settings for gaming, BF2...CSS?

You won't get a constant 60fps, but it'll be playable. I'm running a 6800GT at Ultra speeds, and all my games (including CS:S, HL2, FarCry, UT2004, and a few others, but NOT including FEAR) run well at 1680x1050, with frames usually dropping no lower than the mid 30's (except in HL2 Lost Coast, FarCry with HDR, that new Militia map in CS:S with HDR). You'll probably get decent frames at medium settings at 16x12, but you'll start having to turn the resolution down as newer games come out - I already have to do that for FEAR.

Does the Dell 2001FP Ghost on FPS's? because if not this sounds like the monitor for me. I don't really need wide screen for gaming but I want 1600x1200 native...
So I should be looking at 20" 1600x1200 non-wide screen LCD's.. for plug and play 1600x1200 action...

So in reality with even a 7800GS I should be looking for a nice quality 19" or 20" 12x10 native resolution. I should be able to jack up the settings with this? Ok so I'm off to look.. I want to buy from Costco because of the return policy...BRB...

It has pretty minimal ghosting (motion blur). I have no idea what panels are used by other 20" LCD's, and I bought my 20" widescreen a year ago - so I haven't been in the market lately and I don't really know what's out as far as 20" non-widescreen LCD's. I know Viewsonic makes one, but I think it uses the same panel as the 2001FP. Not really sure what else is out there...

I'm not familiar with the 7800GS and how it performs. If it's not much above a 6800 Ultra, then 12x10 probably will be your max resolution if you want to have max settings and AA and such (I can usually use some AA in HL2, but it's usually kinda slow in FarCry; UT2004 is the most recent game I can run at 1680x1050 with 4xAA and maintain a constant 60fps).

As far as I know, all 20" LCD's are either 1600x1200 (4:3) or 1680x1050 (16:10), so you'll have to go down to a 17" or 19" LCD, both of which sizes of LCD's almost always have 1280x1024 native resolutions.

You should look at some 7800GS benchmarks if there are any (I haven't seen any) before you make your decision, and see how it performs at 16x12.
