Scary, stupid drivers... :(

I was pulling out of my covered parking area yesterday, and two large SUV's had parked by the curb to the left, making it difficult to see oncoming traffic. I waited until the light (a block away) turned red, and pulled out carefully, turning right... there was a car that sped through the red light and almost hit me. I put my hand up in apology as the driver honked and zoomed on in front of me.

I was going to turn right from the same lane, and was driving behind the driver that almost crashed into me, and all of a sudden she SLAMMED on her brakes. I had to slam on my brakes in order to avoid hitting her, and I wasn't even that close to her (she went form about 40mph to 0 by slamming on her breaks). She rolled down her window and stuck her head out at me and gave me a dirty look. She then sped up again, accelerating quickly, and I started accelerating again, as well. Again, without warning, she went up to about 40mph before SLAMMING on her brakes again, to a complete stop... I had to slam mine one, and the car behind ME almost hit me.

I honked at her, and she rolled down her window again and stuck her fist out, shaking it at me. She then opened her car door, and her VERY BIG AND VERY SCARY boyfriend in the passenger seat also opened the car door, and they BOTH shook their fists at me, and then closed the doors and accelerated again.

I was very frightened at this point, and turned right at the next light.

Was what they did illegal? I did do my best to apologize after accidentally cutting her off (completely unintentionally), and was left somewhat frazzled by the experience...

I don't understand why people take things so personally.
Last week a dude didn't put his car in park and it rolled and bumped mine. I was kind of annoyed at how stupid he could be, but I took down his info, thanked him for helping me out, shook his hand and went on my way. Like he said: "We call it an ACCIDENT for a reason." It's not like this dude woke up and said "I think I'll drive down to Giant and roll my car into someone else's!

And in your case, it's REALLY stupid. No harm, no foul. People need to just forgive and forget.

Braking real hard or waving their fists at you?

The braking real hard. 😛 I dunno, seems awfully reckless to me...

from what i remember, if there was an accident and the cops came, you'd get a ticket. it would be your word against theirs, as to how close you were following. the cop would assume that you were following too close. my sister got a ticket this way 🙁

Not long after I first got my digital camcorder, I taped it to my dash to record driving to/from work (was during the fall and the color was great and it's a nice drive). It got me to thinking I might just get a little used camcorder and keep it up there...ya never know! 😉

Agreed completely... oftentimes, people take things WAY too personally...

when the scary boyfriend comes out, get out too, along with a crowbar...

Heh... um... if I had one, I supposed that would've been an interesting option. 🙂

maybe i'm picturing this wrong, but wasn't it comical to see both people just waving their fists at you? were they yelling profanities or anything like that?

Oh dear. 🙁 It's a good thing I wasn't following too closely. If a cop had been there and seen the whole thing, do you think I still would have been ticketed?

Thinking about it now, yeah, it was pretty funny... I was pretty scared at the time, though. 😛 The female appeared to be muttering, but my windows were up so I couldn't hear her...

What you witnessed was road rage. I've seen similar stupidity on freeways before, although not the complete stop & go crap of course. Apparently, road rage is pretty popular in L.A. 😱

Assuming a cop saw all that transpired, I would venture to say it's more likely they'd ticket the other driver for being nuts but who knows.

Heh... if only "being nuts" was a traffic violation. 😀

a few days ago on the way to work, some grandpa almost hit me. then about 10 minutes later this jerky driving a jag and talking on his cell phone almost caused an accident in front of me. then on the way home i ran a red light and didn't notice until it was too late. i was sleepy 🙁

sh^t happens, you just got to know when to forgive and forget.

I'm guessing this part was illegal:

Otherwise, I'd assume it would be considered harrassment if the other car was witnessed starting and stopping suddenly for no reason. But then again what do I know. It sounds like you did the wise thing to get away from them anyway, it's rarely a good idea to encourage confrontation. You may be in the right, but that still doesn't make the injuries any less painful. 😉

lol i have to agree, i find the visual of two people literally shaking their fists at you kind of funny. i thought they only did that in cartoons hehe
