Scary noises and no boot...

Today I was bebopping around on my computer, and when I attempted to open a movie, my computer became very sluggish, and began making an odd noise. It sounded like it was reading or writing to my hard drive very hard, almost sounded like scratching. My system became unstable and I restarted with ctrl+alt+del. It wouldn't reboot, as it would stop at "Verifying DMI Pool" or something along those lines. It makes a series of four of these hard read/writes quickly, then stops for a few seconds, and repeats this pattern. I put in a bootdisk to try and run a scandisk and surface scan, but it said the drive wasn't partitioned. Anyone know what is going on here, or how to fix it?

Positively a hardware issue, look here
If the hard drive is making those noises, scandisk cant run etc... time to shell up a few ponies for a new one.....
good luck

edit: cant spell........
