It is graduation weekend here in Gainesville and I went out to a bar with a friend who graduated and a couple more. I was going to ride with them but realized I had to swing by the ATM and grab some cash. I met them at the bar and kept my drinking limited because I knew I had to drive. I said my good-byes and headed home.
Shortly after, I had 2 headlights bearing down on me. The road was a 3 lane road with 2 in my direction and 1 in the oppposite. I was in the middle lane and this other driver, presumably drunk, was heading straight for me. I was quite confused at first. You don't really expect cars coming at you in your lane but once I realized the inevitability of the situation, I quickly glanced over my shoulder and swerved around to the right lane. I was a bit shaken up but nothing happened. Ironically the car I passed just before that one was a cop.
I guess I got lucky because I controlled my drinking and shortly before the incident, I had made a phone call that was not answered. I saw in the rear view mirror that the car got over to the proper lane after I had passed them. What a strange night. I guess I can just be happy that I am not riding an ambulance right now.
