Max's Minute of Horror

These ratings are for single movies, except where noted. And remember folks, as always, no wagering...

Best "jump out of your seat" moment: The ending of Carrie
Best extended horror scene: Ash running amok in Alien
Best "boogey man": Michael Myers
Best horror prop: The bedside clown in Poltergeist
Best horrific scene in a non-horror movie: Just about any scene in Schindler's List
Best non-intentional hilarious movie that was supposed to be a horror movie: The Manitou :D
Best horror movie music: (TIE) The theme from The Exorcist and the score from Suspiria
Weirdest horror movie: Ringu
The best use of all of 1980's horror genre (for style, attitude, nudity, etc.): Friday the 13th, but Silent Night, Deadly Night is very close second.
Best remake: None. Remakes are for the weak.
Best artsy-fartsy horror movie (all flash, no substance-literally!): The Keep, I mean, come on! Michael Mann of Miami Vice made this!
Best horror about the mundane (or non-supernatural): Misery One word: hobbling
Best cheaply made horror movie: Xtro
Best original- poor production, great idea. Worst remake- lavish production, poor execution (see above about remakes): Parts, The Clonus Horror

Max's "Sleeples Night" award for creepiest TV episode: If you can find it, I recommend it for it's uber-creepy factor. The episode called, "Dragon's Domain" from the sadly brief TV show, Space 1999.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the scariest movie out there IMHO.

My all time favorite horror movie. It still scares the hell out of me. It's the only horror movie I own that I have to prepare myself mentally to watch it.

Some others that I think are scary:

Last House on the Left
The Omen
The Shining (Kurbrick's version)
Jacob's Ladder
The Silence of the Lambs
Night of the Living Dead
The Exorcist

last house on the left.. is that the one with the two girls who get kidnapped on their way to a concert or something? if thats t, it was more distrubing than scary

Prince of Darkness was pretty cool - and for a while, couldn't be found in video rental stores.

What about John Carpenter's "The Thing"? That movie was freaking scary / unpredictable, especially when the guys are all tied to the chair and being put to the "test" by Kurt Russell.

Also, the original Nightmare on Elm Street (not all the crappy sequels). That first one was scary because you had no idea when they were dreaming, etc.

Saw it at Christmas. Not exactly my cup of tea. It was OK I guess(6/10).

Event horizon is pretty creepy.

Blair Witch was awesome if you saw it before all the hype. Once you were exposed to all the hype, people went in expecting more, and were disappointed.

I had no exposure to the hype at all. I saw it at the on-campus theater for a $1. Thought it was a great scary movie. Why? Unlike Nightmare on Elm Street, Excorcist, whatever else, this kind of thing could happen in real life, unlike effect-laden horror movies. A professor of mine knew an FBI agent. Apparently, people getting killed while camping happens a lot more than you might think, but he refused to spill any details, despite her best efforts to get him drunk so he would tell her more.
