Scarfs/Scarves

Modeps

Lifer
My wife got me a nice hat, scarf and gloves for my birthday... and I'm lookin' at this scarf saying "wow thats really nice lookin, but I dont think I'm ever gonna use it." (I've never worn a scarf before) Anyways, the past few days I've been wearing it a lot because it's so damn cold. My office is cold, so I havent taken it off. I think I look hip with it on. Do you find them hip? I'm starting to think they are the cat's pajamas.

I have an exceptionally soft cashmere scarf that I wear with my town coat (which I don't always wear). I love the way it feels, and aesthetically I think scarves look very nice.

i wear one. i notice some of the office hotties wear them all day. mine however i wrap it around my neck and then put my coat on. it sticks out a bit, a la Red Baron or some other ancient fighter pilot. then i walk around the office with my arms spread out and go "Raaaaaaaaaawwwrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr".

off to check fs/ft for some goggles, bbq

Here is a general rule:

For everyday use scarves are not acceptable unless the goal is to be a metrosexual
For special occasions such as going out to a nice restaurant, going ice skating in NYC, or anything where it requires dress up or to be classy then it is a nice compliment to the outfit.

Here's another general rule.

When it's 1F outside when you get up to get your ass to work, you put on as much gear as humanly possible to keep yo'self warm! 😀

Crap, you're right. 🙁 topic edited
You'd think after all these years being alive and living in the US I'd have learned by now...

I will not wear a scarf. Ever. Why? For the same reason I will never wear a baseball cap. I look fvcking ridiculous. 😛 Plus, guys in scarves just look wrong.

You must not have experience with professional people beyond their teens or early twenties. Step one foot in any professional atmosphere and you'll see many of the men wearing suits, town coats, scarves, etc.

I believe it can be either scarfs or scarves, thus making it an irregular noun. The more popular spelling is scarves though.

Irregular nouns:
-o irregulars
- heroes, echoes, potatoes, tomatoes
But: commandos, kilos, solos, photos
Good news (either adding -es or -s is acceptable):
- buffalo(e)s, volcano(e)s, mosquito(e)s

-f, -fe irregulars
- calf, calves
- knife, knives
- turf, turves
But: proofs, dwarfs, hoofs/hooves, scarfs/scarves

I hate our language sometimes. 🙂

I have a flannel type one that I wear all of the time with my leather coat. That strip of cloth really does seem to make a noticiable difference in keeping me warm.

I get at least one scarf every Christmas, but they're just too hip for me to wear. They're like pink shirts or a flipped up collar. Some people can pull it off, some can't.

F hip, my neck is damn cold, I'm not going to be cold just because of stylish reasons. Scarves are hip because they work.

Au contraire, good sir. I see men in scarves all the time, and it just looks goofy to me. Some guys can pull it off, but most just look silly. Of course, that's true about many things
