Scared about Grad School

I'll be applying to the Bioengineering M.Eng program at UCSD and im scared that I'm not gonna get in. Im currently a fourth year EE at UCLA and my GPA is pretty crappy (3.0). Im gonna take the GRE in the next couple months and I can probably get a pretty good score. Im not sure about where I'm gonna get my 3 letters of recommendation since I dont have a close relationship with any of my professors. If I dont get into this program, I don't really know what I'm gonna do. I feel like until now everything was planned and it was easy to know what was gonna happen next but now its uncertain and thats kinda scary.

(a) Do you mean GRE or GMAT.
(b) Do you mean UCSD or UCSCD? 😉

You really must be nervous, or have very fat fingers.

don't worry man... take up a research project this quarter, and have that prof write you a letter... then find shmooz with 2 of your other profs this quarter, and you're set!!

i was like that, and now i'm starting UCI ICS Grad School next week!

Yeah, you need to start getting in good with a few professors.

I was never really good at that, but I forced myself to kind of hang out after class and visit with professors for a bit. Maybe bring up something in the news that you saw that may be pertinent to their current research or interests.

Ya, I guess I have to try this out. It all went by so fast and all the classes were about 150 students so I never got to know any of my profs. Will try hard this quarter.

I never really knew my profs either.

Just take up some special projects w/ some profs. Also go to the TA of a class you got an A in recently. Dothis until you have 5 recommendations and just choose the best ones for the app.

two words: office hours

they work wonders for getting in with profs... and don't talk to them about the class, talk to them about random stuff... then you'll definitely get better letters
