Hope that made sense,I'm trying to change the settings back to yesterday but can't remember the exact command .I thought it was scanreg.
Thanks,Toro

SCANREG is the correct command and is located in the "\WINDOWS\COMMAND" dir. You may need to CD from the DOS prompt. Be sure you are running SCANREG while you are in DOS mode (not from a DOS window in Windows). Enter SCANREG /? to see your options. Sounds like you want to restore so you can use the /RESTORE option. SCANREG will check your reg then bring up a list of reg backups to restore from. Windows backs up the reg during the first boot of the day. Once you select a backup file it backs up the current reg and then restores from the backup you selected. It will then ask you to restart (reboot). I just had to restore the reg on one of my PCs.

Good Luck!

Thanks Lanyap, I've been trying that for an hour & I can't get it to work, keep getting
"Bad command" I am in a dos environment ,I used a boot disk.

Can you explain "CD from the Dos Prompt"
Thanks,Toro

Sounds like you may be trying to enter the scanreg command from the A: prompt since you are booting from a floppy boot disk. I will have to make some assumptions here. I'll assume that you are running Windows 95/98 and that the hard drive where Windows is running is your C: drive. Try the following. Don't use the quotes when entering the commands.

After booting from the floppy boot disk, enter "C:" at the A: command prompt. This will get you to your C: hard drive. Then enter "CD \windows\command" to Change Directories. Your command prompt should look like this: C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND>
Now try entering the scanreg command. It should work unless you have a non-standard configuration.

You can also try going into safe mode during boot up. During the initial stage of the boot (without the boot floppy) you should hear a beep after the BIOS initializes and before Windows starts. Press the F8 or CTRL key immediately after the beep. You may need to press it several times. This should get you into the safe mode startup menu. Look for the number of the "Command prompt only" option and enter that number (it's 5 on my PC.) This should take you to the C: DOS prompt and allow you to enter the scanreg command without changing directories.

you can also boot into command prompt only and run scanreg,

Undocumented tip: Holding down theCTRL key on startup (after Bios message will bring you to the start menu options. Sometimes the timing hitting F8 can be a little tricky.
