chkdsk

either right click on the drive, go to properties-->tools-->check now

or open a dos box and at the drive letter prompt type chkdsk (x:\chkdsk where x is the drive letter)
chkdsk /? will give you a list of optional switches
 
No, or i am not aware of such a utility in win2k.

there are some 3rd party programs, but i would not trust them at all. stay away from norton products that do that....
 
What is your goal?

If your goal is to back up the registry, use ntbackup to backup the system state. During the backup, it will copy backups of the registry to \winnt\repair\regback.

If you get into hot water later, you can use recovery console to copy those files back to winnt\system32\config and get back in.
