Scanning the winsxs folder?

techs

Lifer
From what I understand this folder is really just pointers to other files.
It takes quite a while to scan with AV or Antispyware software.
Can it be safely skipped?

Use an AV that scans it once and builds a database of known-good files, then only scans the files that are changed at all or don't match the definition and hash for it. e.g. NAV 2010
