Hi,

About once every two days, my Canoscan 3000F starts up and runs a scan, just as if I'd pressed the button on the front. This can happen when I'm nowhere near the PC, and even when I'm out of the house. There's nothing anywhere near the buttons (and I don't have any cats/dogs/children).

I'm completely mystified and would be grateful for any suggestions. PC is an Athlon XP-2400 running Windows XP. Scanner is running the most recent drivers on the Canon website - driver date is 3 December 2002 and driver version is 8.3.0.0

thank you!

Check the documentation. It sounds like this is a feature, not a bug. Your scanner may just be checking up on itself. Calibration and all that jazz!

I have had this happen randomly too. I think it may have domething to do with the twain driver interacting with my adobe photoshop or something.. Not sure why....... but it will ocasionally fire up my scanner like it is going to scan then later it shuts off.

I don't think it can be a calibration thing, as the scanner actually scans an image into Acrobat. I have a folder full of blank PDFs.

I'm going with the "it's a ghost" theory.

Hi Dannnnnnnnnnn

You are not alone, and I don't believe in ghosts. My CanoScan D1250U2F also scans all by itself. It happens several times every day. I have it hooked up to a Dell Latitude laptop in a docking station. I am looking for help as well but if I find something I will let you know.

That's because the scanner lamps were made from Mukoden's bones...

:)cookie: for whomever can get that reference.)

Dannnnnnn,

Here is the official Canon Tech response:

Thank you for writing to us. We apologize for the scanner scanning on
its own.

This can happen when the scanner receives garbage information through
the USB Bus. Be sure that the scanner is connected directly to the PC
to avoid such information. The scanner may also need to be reset.
Please reset the scanner by following the listed steps in this
particular order:

1. Take the USB cable off the scanner and the computer.
2. Turn your computer completely off.
3. Lock and unlock the scanner several times, leaving the scanner in the
unlock position.
4. Turn your computer back on.
5. Once the computer is completely booted, reconnect the USB cable.

Also, ensure that the scanner is connected directly to the computers USB
port and not in a USB hub or add-in card. Try an alternate USB port if
possible.

Sincerely,

Phillip
