Scanner recommendations

Anyone have any recommendations for a scanner lets say somewhere between $50 and $150? The cheaper the better, but I would prefer one that works decently fast and with good quality obviously. Thanks for any recommendations.

I usually recommend Epson scanners. Canons are also generally decent. You can often get great deals on eBay. The Epson online clearance center has refurbs and closeouts at good prices and often with free shipping.

To PurdueRy,

In general, unless you are scanning very small things like 35 mm negatives or have special needs, an inexpensive scanner will do.
The CU april/05 issue listed the Epson 2480 and the Canon 4200F as editors choices--both come in at about $100. list price.
They can probably be found online much cheaper now. But other might have other suggestions worth listening to.

My scanner is on an all in one printer--and the scanner really comes in handy for copying documents. Often its hard to tell the difference between the original and the copy.

I use a HP 6300c Scanjet with ADF and it has served me for the past 3 yrs without an hitch. I saw one on eBay BUY IT NOW for $44.99. You can pay more but you won't get better.

There others for $29 in good condition. Its your choice.

I will check there, do you own a scanner? Is there any general strengths and weakness of either one?

Too late, I'd already taken a dump in your car and dragged my butt around the carpeting and then peed on your feet... 😉

Epsons are almost always at or near the top of comparative reviews - and they don't suffer from the clogging problem 😉 ... Generally the higher the price, the faster the scan speed and the more optional accy's you can get for it. Like if you want an ADF (automatic doc feeder) you'll have to go a bit up scale. Or if you need to scan transparencies bigger than slides. I think that one on the Epson store for about $100. should cover just about any contingency and there is an optional ADF available for it.

On the rock bottom end of the scale, I've been fairly impressed with the Canon LiDE 25 I've been trying out last week.

This one uses LED lamps. Benefits are, it won't ever burn out, and the scanner feeds itself out of the USB port, no power supply brick.

The scanner comes with photo editing, OCR and PDFizing software.

I have been taking a look at the Canon LiDE 500F. The vertical position is really cool for me as I wouldn't want this to take up much room. Anyone here got any opinions on this one?
