Scanner=>pdf text converter?

Does anyone know a good free converter to so my scan documents can be converted to pdf's so i can select the words of the pdf, rather than just on image junk.

Unfortunately, free is not one of my requirements, but using NitroPro I can scan directly into PDF.

If linux you can try tesseract and tools. If not linux, no idea.

I believe that what the OP asks for is OCR functionality. I do not think that there is a free OCR application out there. Without a Optical Character Recognition feature, the page gets scanned and inserted into a pdf or word file as a picture.

Not the case with NitroPro9. Of course, that is an option, but it can also scan into a searchable PDF file directly. Unfortunately, it is not free. I find it well worth the modest cost.

I'm surprised the scanner did not come with OCR software.
