Scanner not recognized

I have a Canon CanoScan N670U USB scanner. It has worked perfectly for several years. I unplugged it to clean up behind my desk and now Windows XP SP2 doesn't see it. I've drilled down through the device manager, uninstalled and installed drivers- I even flashed my BIOS thinking it was a USB issue.

I have been in contact with Canon, and considering that my product is out of warranty, they have been helpful. But everything they have suggested has not fixed my problem.

Is there something in my McAfee antivirus, ZoneAlarm firewall or Service Pack 2 that is interfering? Or is this an indication that my scanner is just worn out?

Remove all drivers and or software related to it from the system and the disconnect the scanner. Download and save latest drivers/software from Canon in a new directory. Power down the pc. Re-start and install scanner management software, but not the drivers. Shutdown the pc. Power up (if not already on) the scanner, and connect to a different usb port on the pc (make sure its clean and free from dust). Power on the pc and let it detect the scanner - when it does direct the wizard to the dir/sub-dir where the drivers etc was saved, then complete the installation. Try a different usb cable if you have one.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help, Slowlearner...but I still can't get Windows to recognize my scanner. This particular model does not have a power cord, it draws all of its power from the USB.

I've run out of ideas.
