Hi,

The ScanJet 3400Cse is supposed to scan at 9600 dpi if I'm not mistaken
(please correct me if I'm wrong). For now, I can achieve only 1800 dpi.

So, if I enter a custom resolution of 2400 dpi in the box (I must type
it because the highest setting pre-avalaible is 1200 dpi), I have the
error message "Sorry, an error occurred saving to the file" when I hit "send
the scan".

1200 and 1800 dpi are ok, but if I try a number like 2000 dpi, I have
the same error.

It seems that my problem is related with the file size of the scan or with a
memory problem (like swapfile). I explain:

*With a swap file set as "Let Windows manage my swap file".
Scanning a 21,59cm by 29,72cm color photo at 100% scaling.
Settings: "Sharpen details in photo" and "Use maximum bit depth".
After the "Start the scan" message (done automatically at 200 dpi) I tried
the following optional adjustements:

Output type: "Best color photograph"
Resolution: 1200 dpi (selected in "custom resolution")

UNSUCCESSFUL
(message "There is not enough free disk space to save the scan).

*With a minimum swapfile set as 2000mb and no maximum:

Tried the same thing as above and I was SUCCESSFUL... but if I try 2400 dpi
(manually entered in the box because I don't have that preset) I have the
message "Sorry, an error as occured saving to the file. (File creator
error)".

But strangely if I set to 1830 dpi where the file size is 975 mb, it's ok.
Tried 1831 (976,8) and it failed.

To continue my investigation, I tried the following settings with the same
photograph:

Output type: "Black and white photograph"
Resolution: "2400 dpi" (size=559mb)

...SUCCESSFUL!!!

Tried 3100 dpi (size=933mb) and was successful again!!

...3200 dpi (size=994mb) and it didn't work.

So, I ask what could be my problem. I hope that the infos I gave you will
help you to find a solution.

Here's my complete computer setup:

**Oh, I forgot to tell that I tried the USB setup and it's the same problem.

As anyone else ever experienced a similar problem and could help me.

Thank you.
