I never thought I'd venture out of Distributed Computing or Off Topic, so please be kind :)

I'm planning to buy a scanner with my tax refund. Since I'm a poor college student my tax return is only about $100 dollars, and if I can avoid it, I don't want to spend any more than that.
What kind would you recommend?

Under $100??? You HAVE been hang'n out in those threads too long! :) These badboys are DIRT CHEAP nowadays.

Anyway, here's what to watch for...

Brand names to stick with: Canon, Umax, Hewlett Packard. All Good.
Connection type: SCSI, or if you don't use SCSI, USB. Stay away from Parallel, it's slow.
Resolutions: You'll want something with an OPTICAL rez of 300x300, anything higher is icing on the cake.
Color: 32bit, anything higher is gravy.

Alright, now hit the 'search' button and use keywords 'USB' and 'Scanner' and search the Hot Deals forum.

Or, just get this...
Umax USB Scanner...CHEAP! We're talkin CHEEEEEEAP!

I found HP to be the "BEST BUY". Good quality, good price.

One reason to go with a more reputable manufacturer is that they are more likely to provide timely driver updates and support new operating systems.
