Scanner doesn't scan- blank pages... wtf?

I have an older Umax Astra 3450 USB scanner, it's worked fine until last week, now it won't scan.

It communicates fine with the computer and goes through all the motions, but no image appears after the scan. I've played with contrast settings, DPI, etc. but no dice.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a bad scanner. Does the light still come on, even if it does still sounds like it has gone bad.
 
Thanks for the reply. I got it working... don't ask me how. I figured it was a hardware issue since I tried it on my laptop with the same result.

I just unplugged everything, let it sit for 30 minutes, plugged everything back in (except the cord between the lid and the scanner) and it scanned fine. I don't know if it has anything to do with that cord or not but it's working for now so I'm not messing with it.

 
Hmmm, does sound like an intermittent cord or connection. If it happens again I would try a new USB cable but as long as it is working for now, congrats.
