I think that's a "we can't support you if you try because we are selling off all hardware and our site obviously doesn't sell hardware any longer (unless they moved somewhere)" statement

But after a quick google search it seems that to their credit they did seem to sneak out a xp driver. I think you may want to take a look at these:Driver links

One particularily good piece of instructions found there is this:

To install is fairly easy.
1) Download this driver
2) Install 9636 USB first
3) Goto system prortys in windows XP and then hardware then devices.
4) Goto the scanner wich now has a yellow question mark on it and double click on it.
5) then click on update driver/
6) now point it to the 9636usb2000 directory and install.
7) thats it it now works.

Anyway, I think it's a good buy for that price... snagging one now for my daughter to play with... unless it's really good and I end up liking it more ;)

Not bad for a scanner with an included SCSI card; too bad it's external only.

Unfortunately, this product is probably 4 or 5 years old, and my experience with low-end scanners from back then has not been favorable. So image quality may not be all that great. Probably fast, though; I gave my parents an old HP Scanjet 4p (SCSI) and it's faster than my much newer Canon USB.

I love the slimline Memorex MEM48U scanner that cost me about $15 after rebates at Staples, a year ago. It's 48 bit, maybe 600x1200, but it has WinXP drivers and the software does a great job of scan to buffer and fantastic OCR right into MS Word. It powers off the USB cable with no wall wart required, is very lightweight, and I couldn't be happier. Anyway, just for comparison...

Zipzoomfly also has a $9.99 scanner, mine arrived yesterday and cost a hair over $20 with shipping. This one's USB and gets its power from the USB bus so no power adapter needed.

Mine works fine under XP.

Link.

Specs:
# Retail
# 36-bit true color!
# PC and Mac (with USB connection)
# USB bus powered, no AC power adapter and cord needed.
# 68.7 billion colors, 12-bit Grays, 1-bit line art
# Optical Resolution 600 x 1200 dpi
# Advanced flatbed CIS scanning technology.
# Auto-display image memory size.
# Small footprint, compact design.
# Batch Scan: select and scan different areas of the same image and save
# Scan to Email, fax printer, file and click board.
# Easy to install, easy to use
# Free Software Bundle!

Not bad for $20, no rebates.
