Scandisk problems

My computer won't scandisk all the way. It'll reach some point in the procedure, and then start over, saying that the computer's settings have changed when they haven't. I turned off the screen saver and everything else. WHat's the problem? Thanks in advance

You have something running, Do a Ctrl - Alt - Delete on your key board. Close out everything but Explorer and Systray. And Disable your VirusScan program and then try it. This is what I always do before I run scandisk.

yep go offline and shut down everything you can before running scan disck, also try botting in safe mood and running scan disk and see if that sovles your problem. 🙂

"go offline and shut down everything you can"

Does this include Explorer and Systray? Nothing bad will happen if I take those off will it?

Leave Explorer and Systray running. If you kill Explorer, that shuts down your machine (or simply causes Explorer to close and re-spawn itself). Systray can be whacked, but there's no need to do so. However, if booting into Safe Mode, there's no need to do Ctrl-Alt-Del...no background tasks will be loaded.

Best regards,
Floyd

disable your screen saver(or make it so that it comes in 2-3 hours) and power-down mode. Basically make it so that nothing interrupts the scandisk process.

Turn on (or reboot) the computer and wait til the BIOS screen clears (RAM count), then hold CTRL until you get a menu.

It also works to press F8 after the BIOS screen clears.

Holding down the shift key during boot goes into safe mode also.

I think it's Sygate that might be causing it though. Sygate constantly pings the machines on it's network so you should disconnect from the network.
