<P>I'm going to reformat my drive and was wondering how to do a thorough scandisk through the bootdisc.&amp;nbsp; My hard drive has one bad sector but want to do the scandisk after formatting to see if its really bad or not.

Also, I only have one hard drive, so is FDisk necessary??&amp;nbsp; My friends never use it and have no problems.&amp;nbsp; thanks

To the best of my knowledge, ".&amp;nbsp" is what happens when a fancy font/html coded sentence is reproduced in plain text.

In e-mail, that happens when people compose on word processors that use curly quotes that do not exist in plain text.

Run scandisk from a DOS prompt with scandisk /surface. Maybe you also want to use the /AUTOFIX so you can let it work automatically for awhile.

Edit:If you are going to do a clean install you should really FDISK, delete all the partitions and recreate them how you want it. Otherwise your old master boot record is used and you don't know what's in there.
