Twice while going out to dinner this weekend the Waitresses asked for our ID, took our Licenses and then said she will be right back after she verifies the Licenses with the Manager.

After they came back we asked what they are doing and said they are photocopying all Licenses for the Dept of Homeland Security!

I still can't believe this is the United States.

Edit: OK, apparently Restaurants, Bars etc "Scan" Licenses with a scanner now to verify they are authentic and of Age.

Logans Run is firmly here. Your Time has come, Go to Carousel.

Edit #2 : Son of abiatch, I knew it. Just got a call from my Dad that he was called by the credit Crad Company for suspicious charges. The very next day, someone has taken my sister's ID and started charging stuff all over the State of Florida.

YOU GUYS SUCK!!! For saying that was normal, you're all not any better than the THUGS that stole the Identiy.

Yes, I'm angry, my gut feeling was to call the Police but no the P&N experts and lovers of Losing Civil rights said this is normal now, thanks alot, thanks alot.

This happening anywhere else in the U.S. now too?

We are in Gainesville Georgia. It happened at 2 big Chain Restaurants, AppleBees and Smokey Bones.

This thread should be stickied as it is clearly the first signs of Americans being labeled and herded like Cattle for the basics such as food.

20th Century Germany is here again.

This sounds totally wierd to me, Dave. I wouldn't give a restaurant my drivers' license or social security card. Is your social security number used in Georgia as your drivers' license number? IF so, this may be a scam to get illegal access to credit card information or other personal information. I've had several restaurant employees here in Florida steal my credit card number. It's been a pain, particularly around holidays when I don't have the time to check my account frequently.

BEWARE.

did you notice if they did it to any other patrons in the restaurant? I haven't seen anything like that down here.

Edit: I'd call their corporate offices to see what was up.

My wife Donna brought up a good point.

If it was for Identity scam such as Credit Card fraud, I paid for the bill with my credit not my sister or her boyfriend so I will be the one to have to look out for unusual charges on my credit card statement.

It's simple.

There are people on the "bad" list. You ask too many questions, therefore you are on "the list".

"They" are just keeping tabs on you. As long as you don't do anything wrong, you have nothing to fear, right?

You should call the franchise/national chain as well. I wouldn't have given them the license or let them walk away with it.

Does not happen out here.

Must be that Georgia is on the lookout for you. They need to keep tabs on you.

Activate your GPS locator for them.

You didn't happen to be ID when you purchased alcohol and the restaurant was just running your ID thru their little scanner thing to ensure that it isn't a fake.

I would have stopped her before she left w/MY license! No way that they would need that other than to verify I was over 21 if I'd ordered a drink.

I find it odd....

Perhaps Big Brother is watching only you!!! I have relatives in Ga. so I called this morning to ask if they have experienced the same as you described. They haven't. Go figure.....................

Maybe they ae stalling till the Black Suits can come to take you away???

Put on your tinfoil hat to block the thought scanners and run for the hills.

Ah, in which case the response is: no.

I don't believe... and think it's absolutely un-American... that failing to ID is an offence.

"Ware is your badge citizen?"

ever seen shindlers list? Forget your papers and they ship you off in a cattle car to a ?terrorist? camp.

Illogical argument.. ok sure.. but is this slippery slope truly something we want to risk?

I order freedom fries. They never ask for my ID, even when I offer to pay in Iraqi dinars.

I love good, basic dinar food. You can get breakfast anytime, like ham and eggs during the occupation. And that occupation ain't going away anytime soon.

Nobody in the current administration goes out to eat anymore. They've kinda' lost their appetites. There's a big backload of crow sitting on their plate. They try to eat it when nobody's looking, but it doesn't work.

If you look closely, you'll see black feathers coming out of Bush's mouth whenever Cheney speaks.

That sounds quite odd. Has this happened to anyone else?

While I haven't been to a restaurant in a month or so, no one was asked for his or her ID.
