Scaling size of display to resolution possible?

Meaning that rather than having 1024x768 stretch to the full size of the 1280x1024 display (which looks nasty), I'd rather have a black border around the screen but maintain the native res. Can this be done?

Thanks.

What monitor are you using? And what video card? You can often set either the monitor or the video card to use a 1:1 (non-)scaling mode.

Well, the monitor stretches (L90D+), so I'm looking for a software method of shrinking the display area. (Radeon 9800)

In the Catalyst Control Center click the "Digital Panel Properties" tree. Selected attributes and check "use centered timings". Click ok.

Thanks for that, unfortunately it didn't do a damn thing. Not a damn thing :(

[edit] I noticed it does work when the aspect ratio changes, but doesn't go into effect when switching to 1024x768 from 1280x1024.

I have a l90d+ as well and a 9500 at one point. It's entirely possible to do what you want. Just turn off fit to screen or whatever that feature was called in the radeon control panel.
