scaling/position off with hdtv and pc

I only briefly hooked my desktop to my LED-LCD TV today (still waiting on a few cables for a permanent solution) but the picture was slightly running off the screen on all 4 sides. I had to adjust the scaling/resolution of my desktop via Nvidia's built in scaling to something slightly less than 1920x1080. Is this normal for tv's being used in htpc setups? And is there a better solution than custom a custom resolution/driver scaling?

There should be an overscan setting in the control panel of your video drivers that will allow you to keep the 1080p resolution.

The only reason I ever found it on my HTPC (ATI card) was I had the opposite problem, the screen was too small and not filling the TV screen.

you really want your pc and tv to be at 1:1 pixel mapping. any scaling will reduce clarity

Yes you are right. Text is blurry when scaling.
