Scales that measure body fat

Just got one and the BF measurements aren't reproducible. I'm getting reading ranging from 15 to 40.

My guess is that I'm somewhere around 16%.

I have a Taylor Model 5552.

Are these things notoriously inaccurate or do I just have a bad unit?

I'm cleaning dampening my feet per the instructions and U've tried taking reading at different times of the day with equally poor results.

Well we bought a $100 Tamita at Christmas and my bodyfat is 1-2 % higher in the morning as opposed to later in the day due to water levels. 15-40 sounds definitely bad. I never have wet feet and I don't think the scale says I need them.

There is no way it should be ranging from 15-40 throughout the day though.

Instructions say that "feet must be bare and clean. For best readings they should be slightly damp.

Think I'll bring this sucker back.

Skoorb, what model do you have?

Tanita BF662. It has an athlete mode but I know that that mode is not for me so I use the standard ones. If you get the cheaper Tanita scale it's got only the standard but I'd assume the reading quality is as good. For what it's worth this scale gives us a bodyfat reading within 1% of the $4000 (so says the owner) Tanita bodyfat scale we have at the gym. I've heard there may be a better brand than Tanita though I'm not sure. How much did u pay for yours?

I have one of the cheaper Tanita scales and the readings seem fairly good. It has shown my bodyfat to have gone down by about 6-7% during the period I lost the weight and it never gives any wildly inaccurate readings. Certainly nothing like a 15-40% range

I paid $39 at BJs. The best on-line price I saw was about $75.

I got it for a Mercedes test drive. Like I'm going to buy a Mercedes!

The salesman must have laughed like hell when I drove away with my beat up 1995 Ford Escort.
