SC420 for $243 with P4

Dell has the SC420 onsale for $298 with a $20 MIR.

Specs for $298
P4 520 2.8Ghz/1MB
256MB DDR2
40GB SATA 7200k
48x CD-ROM
1 Year Warranty

Add to the cart for $298 with no additional upgrades. here
Add the $35 off $250+ with DPA code: ?2V5GDM8W?4444

so: $298-20-35=$243 + tax

Might be able to add a $35 off $300 coupon from eBay to make the deal even sweeter

if you search for it on this forum, you will find a link to a very helpful FAQ about this box

coupon works, you just have to complete the payment with the dpa for the $35 to be taken off. uses ddr2 and can use ecc and nonecc as long as you dont mix 'em up

I really wanna jump on this, but funds are a bit tight 🙁

actually, can I use this thing as a desktop? I need one for my sister and parents just for Office and web browsing, but if I install Windows Server on it, there really wouldnt be a big problem right?

EDIT: The FAQ for this system can be found here http://aaltonen.us/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2058

btw, to upgrade from 40GB to 80GB is only 10 bucks...granted a lot of us already have multiple HDD, but a 40GB upgrade for $10 is a great deal

you CAN use this as a desktop, but Dell frowns on it. You can install Windows XP Pro/Home just fine. Do not have to install server 2k3. You can also mod this to use a x700 and bam, a nice gaming/htpc. Also recommending the 80gb for $10 upgrade

Sweet, thanks. I may now consider this as soon as I find out if I have a spare sound card at home. This system does not seem to come with one

yeah, no sound card, as it IS a server. pick up a cheap soundblaster pci and you'll be good to go

EDIT: heres a pic for the back of teh sc420

You can't select DPA as a payment method when checking out online on their SB site.

sure you can, at the check out screen go to "Pay with Approved Credit" and enter in your dpa account number, and see if that works (I'd try right now, but I dont have my acct# on me)

Anyone know if it is possible to use a Dell Preferred Account from the Home Department on a purchase from the Small Business Department. I got my DPA when they were offering a deal on LCD's through the home department. But now, whenever I try to use it on a small business deal it says it is not a valid account.
