SC to vote on public funding for religious schools

Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito compared the exclusion of parochial schools from taxpayers-funded aid programs to unconstitutional discrimination based on race.

That view suggested that Wednesday's case has the potential for much broader public funding of parochial schools.

It wasn't enough, for instance, that the Montana court treated all private schools the same way, whether they were religious or not. As Justice Kagan put it, once the Montana court invalidated the tax subsidy for all private schools, weren't they all "in the same boat?"

If this court decides that public money should be allowed to go to religious schools then not only do we have an activist court but then I will fully support the stacking of the Supreme Court to fully nullify the conservative judges.

Conservatives: States have a right to their own laws and self determination of policy in accordance with sacred US law and tradition.

State: We chose not to spend public money on religious schools.

Conservatives: Fuck that, now you have too. Also the rest of the country. Take that you godless heathens.

What the heck happened to the separation of state and church?! Lol.

Will they be okay with the public money going to Islamic schools? How about Scientology schools? :D

In a day when religion is no longer about the freeing the mind of allegiances to worldly things and cultural conditioning that imprisons it with inculcated assumptions and has been subverted by the enemy itself to do that very brainwashing, it is to be expected that from within religion itself that is no longer religion but the very indoctrination it was intended to free us from, we are bound to see this very thing. Today, religion teaches the very fear it was meant to free us from, concern for and preservation of ego, and those so inculcated by that kind of faith will do all they can to create, tighten, and preserve those chains. He who attaches to the externals of the world as the source for his or her inner worth will always be threatened by truth. Conservative America suffers from an enormous inferiority complex that their so called religious faith is designed to keep them from feeling. They will kill the founding father's America before they will awaken. They have projected all their own inner evil on the secular state. Soon the truth will be known again as it was during the Spanish Inquisition.

It’s kind of funny in a sad way to see the Supreme Court acknowledge on one hand that the purpose of religious schools is to promote their religion, hence their exemptions from laws barring discrimination in hiring based on religion, and then here pretend that the purpose of religious schools is not that, thus requiring they be given public money.

From a legal perspective it appears that currently in America you can basically do whatever you want as long as you say a magical man in the sky said so.

John Oliver did an episode on how easy it is to set up a religion according to the US govt. In fact he did it right on the show.

Gives me an idea for a book: "How to Steal Money from Public Schoolchildren for Fun and Profit!"

Remember in the rainbow cake thread recently where all the conservatives said that that religious school could do whatever it wanted because it's private? Yeah..

And they'll continue the same refrain even if public tax funds go directly to that or any other religious school. Don't you know religious schools are different and exempt from anything and everything? Sheesh.

So if the SCOTUS forces states to fund religious schools, won't that bring those private religious schools under the same standards as state public schools? Thus won't those religious schools now have to teach mandated science such as evolution, sex education involving LGBT, and be subject to punishment for discrimination against LGBT? I hope the more liberal states do this to make the alt right theocratic fascists regret their choices.

Hobby Lobby just cemented this privileged place that religion has in America. You can basically pick and choose what parts of government and the law apply to you. Want government money? No problem! The government wants to apply conditions to that money? No thanks!

Remember these were the same fuckers that were worried about the societal impact of banning discrimination against gays in the work place. Yet, completely breaking down the wall between church and state, no problem.

Fucking REALLY? You're equating this to Hobby Lobby ?

One side of this (this with Private schools) is GOVERNMENT Public tax-payer funding of a religious institution. That means paying for their indoctrinating stupid beliefs, and paying for religious crap. There is no reason for this. I would argue get rid of any tax benefits of any religion - but that's a different argument.

On the other side (Hobby Lobby) is a corporation run by some religious people who simply do not want to pay CERTAIN benefits to anyone that works for them. They could simply not offer benefits at all and we wouldn't have had any problems and no complaints from incompetent fools. And hell - that's in all honesty what everyone should be lobbying for - scrap this stupid employer healthcare bullshit (and force passing on the actual costs to the employee) and letting people choose for themselves what they mean.

I mean hell - just based on laws and legalities - one is based on freedom of speech, the other one is related to government funding. These literally have nothing to do with each other.
