SBlive value useless?

Hi all,
I've got an old sblive value with decent 4.1 speakers and I was whether it is worth upgrading to an audigy/2 together with a Athlon64 platform. I listen to music and play games mostly. I thought that upgrading would give better music and give faster game performance.

I had spent alot of time ironing out sblive issues with the via kt266a chipset so much so that I will never buy VIA or sblaster again. But I heard that the audigy line is a totally different animal.

Ok if youre upgrading to an Athlon 64 then bear in mind that the Nforce 4 is right around the corner (Q4 i believe). And that comes with soundstorm 2 which is even better than the original which was AWESOME! But if you dont want to wait then the Audigy 2 is an excellent soundcard when coupled with a pair of decent speakers. Anything is better than that Live Value though.

Thanks for the info, I also had a look at Sb's comparison chart.

What are the main competitors to the audigy2 series? I'm leery of Sb with their snap/crackle/pop issues and I was wondering if the cheaper maudio cards might do just as well.

Well Maudio is more for professional sounds. In all seriousness the Audigy 2 is probably the best card out there right now. However, like i said before TRY to wait for the Soundstorm to resurface because it is AWESOME!! If not i think turlebeach cards are ok also.
