hey, i've been using my old sblive so far.. but i thought i heard some random static the other day so i was wondering if the onboard audio on the a7n8x-x is any good and whether or not i should use it? the cpu utilization shouldn't be a prob right?

I played some UT2003 Demo with an A7N8X-X's onboard audio and it was quite good. In fact, it sounded like my A7N266-VM, which is the full Soundstorm setup. Performance was good*.

*considering I had 63 Adept bots in the game with me and was using a 1700+ for a CPU

nForce2 onboard Soundstorm is GREAT. Low CPU usage, and good sound quality.

I am using the onboard sound on my Abit NF7-S

ok, but a7n8x-x doesn't have soundstorm :p

Hard one to call then. Sound quality will still be OK, but CPU usage will be higher as it is just AC97 sound

But the only person that can tell you which is best, is YOU

Hmm. I never realized those old A7N266-VM's had Soundstorm. I think I've built 5 computers with them, and never had a clue. :)

onboard Sounstorm > SBLive! no questions asked.

Even if it just the MCP-T or whatever it's just not soundstorm "certified", but it is still using the same chip. :p
