i have a sblive sound card hooked up to an a7v mobo.
it works fine under winme and win98, but when i installed
w2k it crackles. all the drivers are updated from the
via 4in1 patch, w2k sp2 and sblive w2k drivers.

anybody got a clue? 😕

This is a really retarded question, but what happens when you try to use the Win98 SBLive! drivers on Win2k? Will it run fine? Will the system still be stable?

it wont work

Easy solution: Do a search on the live card and be amazed at the few thousand posts saying the same thing.

Better solution: Get rid of that piece of crap and get a real card like TB Santa Cruz or Phillips or even Hercules XP

In theory changing cards is the way to go with all the 686b issues. I had problems with my SB Live crackling and decided to go with a Philips Siesmic Edge.

The crackling is as bad if no worse than it was with the Live. My crackling issue carries over to a few different OS's that I have tried. If you are looking for more information I would suggest Viahardware.com's forums.

The basics I have picked up is:

SB Live is the worst for crackling
The rest of the options are not as prominent but every card has some issues, depending on the card and config of the system.

Basically do your homework, and it still may not pay off. Crackling seems to be an issue with all soundcards under via's chipset. Not every card does it but I have yet to find a card that no one had an issue with.

If anyone has any more information please by all means post it.
