When loading some files in winamp, the program will almost freeze (mouse can still move, program and OS become unresponsive) for around 15-30 seconds then it will finally start playing the song. This happens randomly, the file doesn't matter, sometimes it plays, sometimes it pauses. The problem goes away if I use winamps directsound crossfading plugin and I havent noticed any issues in games. My previous soundcard did not have problems playing the files.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling winamp.

system:
win98se
abit kt7a - rev 1.0 latest 'revision approriate' bios installed
1.2 ghz
384 mb ram
soundblaster live 5.1 oem (sb0100, creative's website identifies it as the MP3+, gamer)

EDIT: When winamp pauses, if I click anywhere on the desktop or start bar Winamp automatically stops and starts playing the song.

Here is a small suggestion: If you are using Winamp 3 downgrade to Winamp 2.80. If you are using Winamp 2.80 get Winamp 3. If you are having problems with Winamp 3, it wouldn't suprise me, because it is still kind of in its Beta stages there are still bugs to get worked out.

Problem solved I think. I was using winamp 2.80, the problem wasn't reproducible in winamp 3. Then I uninstalled winamp 2.80 again making sure to delete all files including visualization plugins. I reinstalled 2.80 and this time it worked.
