When loading some files in winamp, the program will almost freeze (mouse can still move, program and OS become unresponsive) for around 15-30 seconds then it will finally start playing the song. This happens randomly, the file doesn't matter, sometimes it plays, sometimes it pauses. The problem goes away if I use winamps directsound crossfading plugin and I havent noticed any issues in games. My previous soundcard did not have problems playing the files.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling winamp.
system:
win98se
abit kt7a - rev 1.0 latest 'revision approriate' bios installed
1.2 ghz
384 mb ram
soundblaster live 5.1 oem (sb0100, creative's website identifies it as the MP3+, gamer)
EDIT: When winamp pauses, if I click anywhere on the desktop or start bar Winamp automatically stops and starts playing the song.
