My friend is having a problem with his Yahoo dsl they just got. It runs fast and all that, but whenever you play games, the sound sounds like it is coming through a 50ft long pvc pipe...it really sucks, i heard it.

anyone know why?

because it wasn't messed up when he was using his dial up (AOL 9.0 connection, but used firefox to browse)

The only time an Internet connection could affect the sound on a computer is if the sound is actually being transmitted across the Internet connection (most games do not do this) and the source was providing a bad audio stream.

It's most likely a setting on the local computer that is causing the problem. I have heard a similar type of sound on my system when the EAX environmental audio is set to Echo, Hallway, Cave, or something else similar. Assuming that your friend has a SoundBlaster Live or Audigy card, open up the Creative Audio HQ and change environmental audio effects to None. Other sound cards have similar features, but I'm not sure exactly where to find them...

that might be, but why does everything running in flash do it? i think he has onboard sound as well...

strange, how could switching from aol to sbc yahoo dsl do anything? aol isnt on his computer anymore

ill see if i can go over and mess with a setting for sound stuffs.

It's possible that in removing AOL software from the machine he's broken a driver or other important piece of software.

You've got my suggestion, bring a big and mean baseball bat, smash it to well, pieces and it should teach it a lesson to not mess with the user's audio. How about that?

is the phone hooked up through the filter to the same jack as the dsl modem/router?
