I signed up for SBC Yahoo's $19/mo service last week online and noticed the very next day that my line had a terrible crackling noise. I just had a SBC tech out to my house because we were getting the same kind of noise and found that at the MPOE there was no noise, he was able to isolate it to a line in the house which I replaced. Naturally when I started having the same problem again I followed the steps the tech took to isolate a line. I found that at the MPOE with all the house wiring disconnected I still get the noise. I am hesitant to mention that I am an engineer because it would imply one of two things, either I am capable of connecting 2 wires in a junction box or I am not. Still I am confident the problem is not in the house wiring.
I figured I'd wait until the DSL filters came in to call in a trouble report, meanwhile I had an automated line noise test done and according to the test there is no noise on my line. Well last night I got the filters in the mail and installed them on each phone jack in the house and there's still noise, the filters don't seem to make any difference.
The noise is slightly different than what I was hearing when I had a bad wire in the house, if I dial a single number I do hear a moment of silence before the message about mis-dialing the number, with the borked wiring in the house there was crackling during the moment of silence. Is there some connection that could have been made improperly on SBC's end that would give me this noise, and how do I get them to acknowledge the noise? Up to this point I can't even get a living breathing human being to answer my calls, I just go around in circles in their automated system. I'm not even sure how I got a tech to come out a few months ago
