So I was one of the lost children from Directv DSL when they went under, and switched to SBC/Yahoo...

My experience so far:
1.) I'm sorry Mr. Pliable, we can't help you, you have a router @ your home, we cannot & will not troubleshoot your line despite your 90kbps download speeds...
2.) I had a Trios drive selector & HD lying around, install both and install the SBC/Yahoo crapware, swap 2 cables, power down & up on new HD, & wow an entirely SBC system.
---SBC in Mid Jan after I made the modification ot wife's box for troubleshooting "Seems like there was an error in your original order, are you SURE you didn't ask for the 384kbps download package?" Me: "Fvck no, why would I do that?" (not a quote).
---SBC Welllll... we don't believe you, but we'll put in an order to upgrade your service on Feb 6th & you'll have up to 1.5mbps...

3.) Feb 6 comes & goes, I troubleshoot with 3 more techs, spending 2+ hours with them today, the last tech (who played some online games & I thought wasn't going to screw me) cuts me off accidentally(?) @ the end of the trouble ticket write up. I wait 20 minutes, no return call, & call back, getting a tech who sounded like Bennie from LA Law (dev disabilities), I work with him for 5 minutes & ask for his supervisor...
---SBC supervisor picks up 15 min later, "What's the problem sir?"
---Me: "Your company, [rant mode on] for about 15 minutes, end up telling her they've been nothing but a pain for the last 1.5 months, & that of the 3 lawyers I had currently retained, that I'm sure @ least one of them had a friend who'd be willing to sue SWB for making me waste my life on hold & for them not bothering to provide the services they were charging me for, & that there was someone that throws a switch somewhere to get my speed up & she'd better damn well get ahold of that person & bump up my connections speeds today or I'd write a check for a retainer to said attny[rant mode off].

4.) I get a call 45 min later from a guy who threw the switch...

Your download speed : 918054 bps, or 918 kbps.
A 112 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 106809 bps, or 106 kbps

Up from 90-319 kbps for the last 1.5 months:D

(I know my speeds still suck, but it's 3X faster than what I had)

it kinda sounds like:

sbc/yahoo: 15, pliablemoose: 1

:p congrats on actually getting a dsl company to come through. earthlink disconnected me for over a month before they found out that they had switched filter settings without telling me.

Sure felt like that for the last month & a half anyway...

They must really screw folks around who don't know what they're getting...

I have a tip for you, Don't order from companies that do sh!t like that. If Covad is available in your area that is who you should have went with, Covad knows what customer service means.

I live in a quasi-rural area, SBC was the only game in town after DTVDSL folded up & moved out... I'm lucky they don't send the service guys to come hunt me down & tie me up with 4 conductor wire & put me in a junction box.

Had to keep hammering @ the CSR supervisor, "Don't you-all have any internal mechanisms to keep track of this stuff? The rest of the world has been doing quality control for the last decade & a half...."

i have nothing but good points about SBC so far. Been 17 months and going strong. I was so close to getting faster speeds but i lay outside of the CO. I did some shopping and the local cable has a 5 gig total cap. Not good.
