SBC goes on strike once every three years...literally.

Every three years they get a new contract, and usually it involves going on strike for a short period of time. The longest that I can remember them going on strike is about two weeks. I know this because my dad retired from there. It's been like that for decades and isn't anything new, isn't anything to be alarmed about, and will work itself out in a short period of time. The general effect to the individual is non existant (unless you need to have something repaired, then it's not going to happen)

I was on the phone with SBC tech support a couple of times last week. They must be in Inda. It was by far the worst support I have ever had to deal with.

I'm talking about SBC DSL in Houston.

just hope you don't need anything repaired in the next few days.

i work for a CLEC that leases circuits from SBC and all day today it was insane trying to get a trouble ticket opened on a circuit, much less getting one repaired.

most of us were on hold for over an hour before we got to anyone and even then the person we spoke wasn't really sure how to open a ticket, test a circuit, much less repair one.

i hope this is over by monday.

here's an idea, look for someone other than SBC to get your internet through, sure they're cheap... but there's ZERO love when it comes to customer support, and they don't care about you at all if you've got an outage. there's a lot of companies out there that actually will use SBC's lines for their service. My father has SBC for DSL, and is constantly complaining that it's down... I've got netplex, and have NEVER had an outage that wasn't my fault (ie my router / home network stuffs)

here's an example

They're the ONLY game in town where I live, it's them, satellite or dial up

my sbc dsl is fine, but I can't call long distance or 800 #'s outside of the county, racking up the minutes on my cell phone rapidly.

There are no other providers, unless you want to use the 'ol tin can and string phones :(

Nope. My cable connection is nice and, uh, working. 3mbps baby!
Your cable line isn't being affected by SBC? NO WAY!

I was boasting that cable rocks and DSL sucks balls.

My DSL is faster then your cable. SBC does offer faster the 1.5 megabits now :)

The 6000/608 ROCKS........better then the crappy 128K upload :)

Wow, nice! How much do you pay for that? Static IPs?

$45 it's a dynamic IP you can get static if you want but truthfully the IP doesn't change that often.

I share with 4 people which lowers the cost way below what dialup would cost.

Holy hell... Want a 5th roommate? :D :D :D

I had SBC DSL in San Antonio from 2000-2001. It sucked. Dropped IP addy every hour or so. Extended outages of 24 hours or more, dial-up like speeds and of course, completely INEPT customer service (Level I and II) were the norm.

I then got Time Warner Cable, which on the whole, rocked. Now I'm stuck with QWest DSL. It has not gone down, nor has my IP changed in the two weeks I've had it.

My speeds suck though. I'm lucky to see 80KB/s down. :(

Siill, it's a lot better than dialup. $33/mo, BTW.
