SBC DSL Express good enough for the average consumer

The internet connection would primarily be used for emailing, surfing, and occasional downloading. Its cheap at 20 bucks a month but the guarateed speed is at 384kbps which seems a little low. But would it be good enough for the above tasks?

More than enough. The cable companies that hype their 8 meg download speeds and things like that are just blowing smoke. Most websites aren't going to be able to send you the data that quickly anyway so unuless you do a ton of P2P file transfers and majorly data intensive gaming, any old DSL speed would be plenty.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was just worried that it would not be much of an upgrade from dial up.

Oh no, compared to dial up you will be flying. And compared to the really fast cable services you will notice a bit of a slowdown but not much during standard web browsing and email.

Heh. Yes, it would be a hugely significant upgrade in speed and performance.

Heck, even a 144k IDSL line is a major improvement over Dial Up. This is another 2.5x faster than that.

🙂

HUGE upgrade.
Night and Day difference

After using 384k DSL a month then going over to a friend's house and palying around with his dial up connection you will be AMAZED at how painful it is and how quickly you have gotten used to DSL speeds.
