I just put a Shuttle SB65G2 together and it immediately started making noise. The noise is a high pitched (not very loud) kind of wheeze that changes pitch whenever I click, scroll, access the hard drive, anything!. I also hear a fst fst fst coming from the vicinity of the lower part of the power supply whenever I scroll. Once the machine is warmed up this noise is constant and changes pitch like I said above.

I believe it's electrical noise of some sort. Power supply caused perhaps? Any suggestions or similar experience?

The sound stays after I remove the hard drive and CDRW, so I know it's not drive related.

System: P4C 3.0, 1GB Crucial DDR400, WD1200JD, Radeon 9600

This is a somewhat common problem - don't remember what they do about it, though. Go to sfftech.com forums and look in the Shuttle XPC section - there are always threads there about it.

people on the SFF tech forums have fixed this problem by going to an external powersupply. Aparently the scrollwheel causes the powersupplt fans to change speed, making a noise.

here is one such thread
