well a handful of Elf dos/v game collection of mine uses the play5v.com TSR for midi BGM. a good old vibra16 used to handle it like a champ in Dos 6.22, but sb live!/win98se command prompt would give some crappy tunes, prolly a different synth or map i assumed. the following line was present in my autoexec.bat:
SET BLASTER=A240 I2 D1 H5 P330 T6
SET CTSYN=C:\WINDOWS
C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\SBLIVE\DOSDRV\SBEINIT.COM
so i tried adding:
SET MIDI SYNTH:1 MAP:[G,E] MODE:[0,1,2]
without any luck
when cleanbooted to dos 7.0 using 4dos as the shell, somehow it managed to work just fine! but alas, when i quit the game and rerun it, the midi becomes utter crap again

i found it quite curious since only the first time after each reboot would make the midi sound right. last but not least any suggestions on how to make it agree with command prompt would be appreciated...
btw, anyone remember the [bootmenu] for config.sys?
the exact syntax for menudefault eludes me...
