SB Live X Gamer problems.......

I just got an SB LIVE XGamer 5.1 today and all I have is crackling through the speakers. I have an Asus A7V 133, 1.3 gig Tbird, 512 megs of RAM, 2X Network cards installed and a GeForce DDR. I have the soundcard in the 3rd PCI slot, and it still wont work. The only time I actually get sound is if I put the ATI Tv card in, then it works for that, but not for anything else. I did a clean reformat without the ATI card in it and it still does it.... any ideas or is the card screwed?

do u have the newest 4 in 1 via drivers installed that would definately be something to do
also is anything next to the sound card pci slot wise because the sb live is a huge resource hog
do a search; there are lotts of posts regarding this issue
