I am upgrading my entire system. In my old system I have a sound blaster live card with EAX (not advanced). I want to save some bucks and either use my old sound card or onboard sound on the new motherboard. I use the Line Out and a Rear Out with 4 speakers and a subwoofer. I also use a Line In and a Mic In. In the years since I bought my sound blaster live has their been enough improvements on onboard sound to use it and sell the sound blaster?

Keep the SB live, it's better than any onboard sound, except for soundstorm of course. ;)

SB live is better than ANY analog onboard sound, even soundstorm. if your using the digital outputs though, the soundstorm would be the way to go.

depends on your use.
I have recently been having troubles with my soundcard and am now using my onboard audio again.
works fine for music + 2 channel stuff. CPU utilization is probably a bit higher though.

& Envy24PT. I've heard (from a review) SoundMax is between a Live and a Audigy 1 but IDK.

Unless of course your looking @ it from a gaming performance POV. ;)
