Are there more than one version of SB live value? The picture on the creative web site shows no digital output, while people talk about the digital output from SB live value. Looks like I can pick up SB live value w/o digital output for $43, and some guy sells SB live value w/ digital output for $48. Are there any other difference between the two cards? And if I buy the one w/o digital outpu, can I add on the digital output later? Thanks.

There are 2 versions of the SBLive value, the original version, and the new version, known as the SBLive Value version 2, which comes with an additional digital out.

This cannot be added.

The new version of the SB Live Value (often refered to as Live Value II) is CT4830.

The original is the CT4670. This is the easy way to distinguish between the two.

You can use Creative's Optical Digital I/O Board with the original CT4670 to get digital ports. It uses the CT4670's SPDIF_EXT connector on board. Look at the bottom of this page it lists which cards are compatible

check out this link as well. it has a cool diagram of the connections and wires you would use to set your stuff up.

YES you can add a digital out to the first SBlive value. Hoontech sells a daughterboard that can hook up with the first sblive value Hoontech Website .
Also, when I bought my Creative Labs Soundworks Digital speakers, they came with an add-on coaxial s/pdif out that connects with the first sblive value.

I also have the SBLive Value 1024. Would be interested if anybody knew where to get a cable to hook this pup into my Denon AVR-3300. I would have to go into the optical input on the Denon.

The digital out almost looks like a mini-plug on the SBLive Value??

I'm pretty sure you will need the Optical I/O card to hook up to your Optical connection. Currently I have the Digital Out on the SB Live Value hooked up to my coax input on my receiver using a mono mini-plug to single RCA cable. I get 2ch stereo for mp3s etc. and DD from my DVD software (PowerDVD and Hollywood Plus player).

What was I thinking. A simple adapter cable would work for the coax digital in.. Dumbass, I am....

I guess optical needs that little light in the middle of the cable to work right.
