SB Live value on win98 losing sound when switching devices

Got a problem with 98 and SB Live value.

My friend has a DVD card and a TV tuner card.

He used a splitter and has tried just switching the cable and comes up with the same thing.

Whichever device he uses first will get sound played via the card, but the second device used will produce nothing until the system is rebooted.

This happens whether he uses the splitter or just unplugs one then plugs in the other.

System is:

Athlon 1.33
Epox 8Kta3pro
256MB pC133
GeForce MX2 400
SB Live Value
Hollywood REALmagic DVD
Hauppauge Win/TV


Any ideas greatly appreciated.
