Down at school I have a 1.8ghz machine with a SB Live card in it. I have my Geforce3 hooked up by S-Video to one of the recievers s-video in's. What about sound? I still cant figure out what connections i need or if i can even do this. I want to watch dl'ed Simpsons episodes and movies on my tv. I have a 5.1 speaker setup attached to a Kenwood Vr-507. What do i need and how do i hook it up to the reciever in order to watch the movies/shows with my theater speakers?
Lastly, will i hurt my speakers by hooking up the computer to my reciever?

Is your SBLive the 5.1 version?

You wont get 5.1 digital surround sound with your downloaded episodes anyways, so you can just use a regular audio cable (ie. one headphone jack and splits into red/white coaxial cables) to hook it up to your home threater...

And lastly, no, it would not hurt your speakers by hooking your computer to it...

I did that. I have a SB live Value i believe with 4 ports. Red ,Blue, Green and Black. Correct me if im wrong, but i went to radio shack and bought a y-connector. Plugged it into the black port and attached rca l/r cables to the 2 ends. Next i took the L/R cable to my receiver. Does this sound correct?

What is a SPDIF? My computer says it came with one.
What is the black pot anyway. Can i plug a coaxial into it?

If your card is a SB Live Value, then the 4 jacks in the back are:

Line in, mic in, line out, and speaker out (in no particular order)...

So you would take a cable similar to this one... plug the black end into your speaker out at the back of your SB Live card, and the red/white end to your receiver...

S/PDIF stands for Sony/Philips Digital InterFace...

A S/PDIF cable is basically a coaxial cable (ie. Like the Red/White end from the above pic)...

So if your computer (or DVD player, etc) has S/PDIF out and your receiver has a Dolby Digital decoder accepting S/PDIF in, you can simply connect the 2 ends with a coaxial cable to get full 5.1 digital surround sound...

However, I dont think your SB Live Value has this option...
