As in the topic title says, well, look at this:

with SBLIVE quake 3 Arena 800x600 HQ with Geforce DDR --> 115 FPS
without SBlive Quake 3 Arena 800x600 HQ with Geforce DDE > 133 FPS

What is happening?

I tried Asus A7V Bios 1003, 1004c, 1004D, 1005A and it is always the same!
I tried changing Sound Blaster Live to PCI slot 3 and slot 4 and nothing changes!

I tried different VIA drivers, always the same.

on WinME and Win2K it is the SAME!!!

On my other machine, Celeron II 900 with Soyo 6BA+ IV Matrox G400

All the same with SBLIVE --- 83 FPS
all the same without SBLIVE- 84.5 FPS

that's more like it, sooo What is wrong with this motherboard?

I have an Asus A7V BIOS 1003 with Athlon 1 Ghz 10x100, Golden Orb.

Any ideas?

I think it's pretty normal difference between sound and no-sound. When you have some sound effects enabled on SBLive (don't know if Quake3 supports EAX), the difference might be even bigger. It's strange how celeron manage to run with so little FPS-loss...

You don't understand.

I tried in almost 10 different computers.

The difference SHOULD be MINIMAL.

look at this.

1 FPS loss with and without in a Soyo 6BA+ III with P3-800
0.5 FPS loss with a DUAL Pentium III 500 OLD KATMAI on ASUS P2BDS
3 FPS loss on a Celeron 400 OLD.

so??

this is NOT normal, 20 FPS loss is TO MUCH for a 1000 Mhz processor.

I know what I'm talking about, this is a problem.

Did you try the latest Liveware drivers?
It is normal to have a hit on performance when sound is switched on (esp 3D)
Some PCI slots perform better than others, did you try slots other than 3 & 4?
And if you don't get a satisfactory answer, you may want to try the 3d Sound Surge forum. They are usually very helpful...
Good Luck!

Dont be a dumb-ass. Enabling sound ALWAYS lowers fps - ON ANY PLATFORM. Check out the last paragraph on this page:
SharkeyExtreme Benchmarks
HHhhmmmnn.. 20 - 26 FPS difference on ALL 3 MB's...

PS: I've NEVER seen a reputable benchmark that DIDN'T show a big FPS difference with sound ON/OFF. You must have tested incorrectly...

I Found the problem!

It is the CAS Latency of the RAM, when I put CAS2 memory at 100 Mhz the FPS increasy by 1 with sound and NO increase with Nosound.

Well, Increasing FSB by 110 increased my FPS by almost 5 with Sound and NOTHING with NOSOUND.

You see? it is a memory bandwith problem, it seems SBLIVE takes A LOT of bandwith from the PCI BUS so when memory Bandwith increases also increasy the speed.

Cool right ? :)
