SB Live Problem

I recently changed my sound card from PCI slot 4 to 5 to try and solve IRQ problems...
It seems to have fixed my problem with lockups, but all I heard out of the sound card are beeps now. Everytime there is supposed to be a sound I just hear the same beep out of the speaker.

I have the following:
P3 700e
Abit BE6-II
Creative Annihilator 2
Creative Sound Blaster Live Value

I would appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

Check your audio cable connections - maybe you plugged them in wrong.

Also, try downloading the Liveware 3.0! drivers, they seemed to have solved all my problems with my Celery and crashes. (Since you have the Value it might be a diff driver, not sure though) And try it in slot1 just to see if that fixes it

The driver is the same, also Liveware 3. Try that one.

Also, if you are using normal speakers, it should be plugged into the green plug, probably the second one from the game port. is that the one you use?

Yeah, I plugged it into the green one.
I found out that the sound card doesn't work in slot 5 of the Abit BE6-II, but the computer keeps crashing in all the other slots.
I updated to the newest drivers and it didn't fix anything. I'm pretty sure it's the sound card since the computer runs fine if I take it out.

Did you delete the drivers for SB Live fore moving it to a different slot? Kinda weird that only one slots works for it.

Yes, I removed the drivers before changing it to a different slot. It makes the computer crash in every slot where it works.

It's probably PCI slot 5 that's the problem. On the BE6-II I'm nearly 100% sure PCI5 is NOT bus mastering, which is probably your problem. Try removing all your drivers and sticking it in a higher numbered PCI slot if possible...such as PCI2 or PCI3. Make sure to reinstall the drivers after moving it around. 🙂

I had the same problem on my BE6-I. Uninstall the card, and make triple sure all the drivers and any traces of the SB live! are gone. Then, as mentioned above, reinstall in in a lower numbered PCI slot. I currently have mine in slot 3.
